As Kids See it: Numbers & Foods

Posted: December 6, 2007 in The Kids

So Ama and the Kids were having lunch.

Ama ordered a sausage and fishball combo for the Kids. Each set had 3 sausages, 4 fishballs and some sweet corn.

After eating for a while, May remarked: ‘Now I’ve only 100 sausages and fishballs left.’

Not long after, she said, ‘Now I’ve only 10 sausages and fishballs left!’

Ama, who had been ignoring her mumblings, asked, ‘You only started with 3 sausages and 4 fishballs. How can you have 100 or 10 left?’

May pointed to the cup –

With the sausage representing ‘1’ and the fishball representing ‘0’ – it looked like May really had ‘10’ sausages and fishballs left!
