Kite Flying

Posted: December 30, 2007 in Family Time

After being in the house for a few days because of the flu, Ama and the Kids went out for a little exercise.

Went to the field to watch people fly kites, but ended buying one, and trying it out.

At first the kite kept falling down, and the Kids happily rushed to retrieve it.

But after a while, Ama got the hang of it and got it stay up. The Kids weren’t happy: Ama, why doesn’t the kite come down? (so that we can go retrieve it?)

Ama also let the Kids pull the strings a bit, and they thought that they could fly kites themselves!

Twins Learning

Posted: December 29, 2007 in The Kids

The Twins used to ‘clean up’ by putting away their toys one at a time.

Nowadays, the Twins have become ‘efficient’ at picking up their toys and putting them away, after they are finished playing.

They’ll hang a bag around the neck and put the toys on the floor into the bag until it was full, before transferring them into their respective boxes.

Chef Aba

Posted: December 29, 2007 in Family Time

Ama not feeling well.

So Aba had to prepare the Kids’ dinner.

Aba: What’d you want to eat?

Jern Sarn May: Mac and Cheese!

Overheard while Aba was preparing ‘instant’ Mac and Cheese…

May telling the Twins excitedly: Look! Aba can actually cook!

Pineapple & Walnut Muffin

Posted: December 27, 2007 in Ama Time

What Ama had originally planned to make before Christmas is only now served at the Wong dining table – Pineapple and Walnut Muffin! (with almond flake toppings).

So was the Chocolate Muffin better, or the Pineapple Muffin?

Aba: <mumble mumble>

Jern Sarn May: Both good. Whatever Ama make also good.

Work of Art: Snowman

Posted: December 26, 2007 in The Kids

Ama had wanted to teach May to make a ‘snowman’ before X’mas, but due to the busy schedule and May falling sick, Ama could only teach her today.

Made of card board, cotton, glue and coloured paper, May’s latest Work of Art!

Run Up to X’mas 2007!

23/12/2007: Last Minute Shopping

The Family was supposed to join Aba’s relatives for a X’mas eve ‘party’.

There was going to be gift exchange (random). Kids below 12 will get a present from each family.

So Ama brought the Kids (all sick) to nearby Jusco for last minute shopping of X’mas presents.

It was SUPER crowded.

Spent 1 ½ hours buying 3 adults and 6 children presents.

It took more than 1 hour more to set them all gift wrapped there.

p.s After removing the price tags from the presents, the Kids were tasked with throwing them away.

Instead, May and Sarn stuck the price tags all over Jern!

Jern was a good sport – not only did he let them do it, he insisted on walking around with the stickers on his shirt the rest of the day!

24/12/2007: X’mas Eve ‘Party’

Dinner with Aba’s relatives (X’mas ‘party’) was supposed to start at 7:30pm, but due to the rain, everyone was late (Aba and Agong 1st to arrive).

Western style dinner was served:-
   Creamy soup
   Braised pork + gravy
   Smoked duck
   Boiled vegetables
   Tropical and citrus fruits
   After Wight mints
   X’mas chocolates and cakes

As there were no other ‘young’ children, Jern Sarn May soon became bored. ‘Walk here walk there’ while the grand uncles and aunties chatted incessantly.

Ama and the Kids left earlier, around 11pm because the Kids weren’t well.

Had a BIG bag full of presents!

Reached home almost 12am.

Managed to persuade the Kids to open the presents tomorrow (except one) and got them to bed quickly!

By the time Aba and Agong coma back, Ama and the Kids were already sound asleep!

25/12/2007: X’mas Day

Due to yesterday’s ‘late night party’, everyone woke up late.

The Kids had a BIG surprise!

055_.gif 055 image by onionethan

Aba and Ama’s X’mas present for the Kids – Supermarket Shopping Fun Playset! (The Kids had been eyeing it since the last time that they were at Toy ‘r’ Us, little knowing that Ama had secretly bought it).

As Aba and the Kids was not feeling well, the Family didn’t go out on X’mas day ‘jalan-jalan’…

Until Ama discovered that the Barney Show was on at One Utama – and it was the last day!

052_.gif 052 image by onionethan

Barney, BJ and Baby Bop are basically the only T.V. characters (other than Disney characters) that the Kids know.

So the Family rushed to One Utama by 7:30pm.

Unfortunately, the last show (8pm) was already full house.

Somehow, Ama managed to get the Kids admitted and even got coupons from the organizers for taking pictures with Barney himself!

The Kids got to watch the show close up – yah!

021_.gif 021 image by onionethan

The show lasted around 20 minutes with the usual singing and dancing, including familiar Barney numbers as well as X’mas carols.

Alas, when the photo session came…

The Kids were too SCARED to go up the stage alone (ie, without Aba or Ama – parents not allowed; can only take photo in the designated ‘parents box’).

Maybe it’s because they were moody from being sick.

Anyway, the Family had a quick dinner of Tako Yaki and sushi at Jusco before going home.

Winter Festival 2007

Posted: December 22, 2007 in Family Time

Today is Winter Festival; Ama prepared ‘tong yuen’.

Made pink, yellow, green and orange coloured ones with peanut filling, served with red beans and soya milk.

The Kids also follow!

Sarn and May rolled the ‘rice balls’ (actually play dough!) and Jern was in charge of ‘boiling’ them.

061_.gif 061 image by onionethan

     Ama’s Recipe:

      a. glutinous rice flour, 120g
        rice flour, 10g
        water, 60g
        santan, 40g
        sugar, 1tsp
        coloring, some
     b.  soya milk, 1000ml
        sugar, 3 tbsp
        pandan leaves, 2
     c.  canned red beans

        peanuts (fried & pounded), 60g
        brown sugar, 3 tbsp
        peanuts oil, 1 tbsp
        peanut butter, 1 tbsp

    1.  Mixes filling and keep in fridge for 30 minutes.
    2. Knead (a) into smooth dough, then separate into 4 portions and add
in red, yellow, orange and green color respectively. From there,
apportion colored dough into 12 equal pieces and shape roundly,
flatten and wrap in the filling, set aside.
    3.  Boil water and pour in the rice balls, cook until they are afloat, dish
out and rinse in cold water.
    4.    Bring (b) to boil and add in rice balls and red beans to serve.
