Singapore Trip 2009

Posted: December 18, 2008 in Family Time

The Family went to Singapore as one of the school holiday trips this year.

On the evening of the 18th. The Family took a taxi to KLCC (during rush hour too!).

Dinner was at the Food Court. Then we rode the LRT to KL Sentral for the express night train to Singapore.

As expected, the train was late. It was around 9:45pm before boarding.

The Kids were super excited at the opportunity to sleep in the ‘bunker beds’ in the train for the 1st time.

Had supper consisting of a Subway sandwich bought earlier at KL Sentral before calling it a night.

The Kids slept fitfully due to the bumpy and noisy train ride.

Reached Singapore around 6am and got through immigration at Woodlands without a hitch. Got back into the train for the remainder of the journey to the train station at Cantonment Road.

From there, the Family took a taxi to the new YMCA @ One Orchard, where we were planning to stay. Checked in and left our bags there, though the room would only be ready after 2pm.

So the Family walked to the nearby Dohby Gaut MRT Station for breakfast at a Kopitiam.

Then it was off to Chinatown to purchase 2 day tourist passes for unlimited train and bus rides.

Took the MRT to Clark Quay for the ‘free’ boat trip to Singapore Flyer (ferris wheel).

It was huge, air-conditioned, with audio guide for the sights, and loads better than our Eye of Malaysia.

The Kids had a great time running around the large cabin during the ½ hour ride.

The Family then took the Shuttle Bus back to City Hall and caught an MRT to Bugis Juncture, a busy shopping district that’s fully air-conditioned, including the streets. Had lunch there.

Walked around a bit (there’s a Kinokuniya there) before returning to YMCA for an afternoon nap. (Ama sneaked out to nearby Singapore Plaza while the Kids were sleeping).

Around 5pm, the Family got out and ‘jalan-jalan’ along Orchard Road for a while. It was filled with Christmas deco and activities, as well as lots of visitors!

Finally, we took on MRT to Ang Mo Kio for the bus to the Night Safari.

The Kids had been to the Singapore Zoo in the last trip, but in the day time! This time, the Family was going to try out the Night Safari. Cost for Malaysians only SG$60 for family of 5!

Dinner at Bongo Burger was a whopping SG$45 though. Got to see an interesting ‘natives’ performance involving blowpipes and fire breathing.

Then it was on to the tram ride ‘safari’. Kids got to see lot of animals from 4 continents, with commentary, including lions and flamingos!

Took the leopard trail in between the tram ride, but not for too long as it was dark and scary for the Kids (saw flying squirrel!).

Kids enjoyed themselves, and even got to take pics with a ‘Zebra’.

Left after 10pm by bus. Bought supper at train station and got back to YMCA around 11:30pm.

Previously, only May among the Kids went for Marché cooking workshop.

But these school holidays, the Twins were old enough to join ‘Big’ sister for the 1st time!

It was a Pizza making workshop.

Sarn, though, didn’t participate. He was afraid of getting his fingers ‘yucky’ from kneading though (?).

So it was May and Jern who completed the course.

‘Tabao’ed back their culinary creation for Aba to enjoy too!
